Beginners Course August 2024

Due to unprecedented demand we had two incredibly busy beginners courses with 15 new members joining in March and 10 in May.  Our philosophy is run a beginners course just when we need to top up our membership, hence we have opened less frequently than usual.  If you are total beginner the last CARISMA beginners course started on Tuesday 20 August 2024 at 5:45pm to run for 4 consecutive Tuesday and Thursday  classes (e.g. 20, 22, 27 and 29 August).

Please note: it's no longer possible to sign up for this beginners course. Please wait until we publish the announcement for the next one.

According to our philosophy martial arts take time to be learnt to a minimum level of proficiency; it makes sense for you to join the beginners course just if you are available to attend it until its end, with the intention of joining our club after the beginners course ends and train with us for the months to come. Please refrain from joining if you are leaving Cambridge immediately after the beginners course ends.

Training on Sunday Summer 2024

All Sunday sessions between 9 June and 15 September 2024 inclusive will be held at the Histon Road Recreation Ground (see map below) at 5:00-7:00PM when the weather allows it.

In case of rain (or if the grass is wet as it rained previously) we will post a message on this site to indicate the training venue that will be visible under the schedule category please check it if in doubt.

Massimo Gaetani awarded 6th Dan

Massimo Gaetani 6th DanIt’s with great pride and pleasure that we announce our head coach and founder, Massimo Gaetani, to be awarded his 6th Dan Black Belt on the 14th on May.  Massimo received his 1st Dan in June 1989, when still training in Italy. Achieving the 6th Dan 35 years later is the result of many years of consistent and relentless dedication to training and teaching martial arts to many thousand of students during the last 25 years at CARISMA. Peter Edward, president of Kickboxing GB (formerly WAKO), awarded Massimo his 6th Dan by stating “the club is very good, all students are very good, the way the class is run is very good, everything is very good“. Massimo added: “I am honoured to receive this as a recognition of my work and efforts in practicing and teaching kickboxing and martial arts; now the counter resets and I am looking forward to my 7th Dan in 7 years”.

Easter Break 2024

CARISMA wishes a warm Happy Easter to all members, their families, friends and relatives as well as to all readers of our blog. The club will be training until Thursday 28 March and then again from Tuesday 2 April. There will be no training on Easter Sunday (31) and Monday (1). Have a nice Easter Break!

CARISMA Cup – Friendly Fight January 2024

Following up on the success of the previous event CARISMA is announcing a friendly fight open to all members of CARISMA, ARUKBC and CUKBS, to be held in CAMBRIDGE at the North Cambridge Sports Centre on 29 January 2024, starting at 6:30PM sharp. This is the ideal chance for total beginners to test their skills in a totally safe and  fairly informal setting. Each fight will be pre-matched, taking into account gender, weight and experience, following the Wako International Kickboxing Light Continuous rules.  Each fighter will take part in a 3 rounds bout fight in the ring (beginners 1 minute, intermediate 1.5 minutes and advanced 2 minutes). We are looking forward to members of all these club to come forward and take part is this unique opportunity. The fights will be strictly light contact to ensure everybody’s safety and enjoyment.  We’ll apply the same rules and regulations as per our Town Vs Gown fights. Please read careful all rules and regulations also in terms of kit and uniform required.
