CARISMA 7th AGM, 12 July 2005

Attending: Massimo, James Br., Justina, Raheela, Becky, Chris H, Neil, Duncan, Robin W, Caz, Davina, Caroline, Adam M, Ben, Mark H.

Minutes

  1. Introduction: Massimo welcomed everyone to the meeting
  2. Financial report and Attendance figures: MH gave a report on the club.s finances. Currently we are doing very well, the club bank balance has risen substantially over the course of the year and in particular over the past six months which reflects the successful beginners courses that were run in January and March. This leaves us in a good position to organise the AGT in September.
  3. Massimo made a series of points:
    • The overall technical level of the club has improved over the year with the number of black belts doubling, new brown and blue belts and also an influx of yellow and orange belts. This is good as it reflects well on the general standard of training in the club
    • Survey results:
      • Why train: fitness came top, sport competition bottom.
      • What has training improved: all categories scored highly, fitness came top, speed came bottom.
      • Carisma activities and services: assistance for questions asked came top, schedule flexibility came bottom, but all scored highly.
      • Preferred activities: advanced pair training came top, self defence was bottom.
      • What should we do more of?: power training and sparring came top, regimental training came bottom
      • Extra activities: social activities came top, competitions came bottom. Special courses also scored highly.
    • Discipline and uniform: by and large we're OK, though less talking while a class should be the rule rather than a nice exception. Also we have a uniform and students should try and observe it, this means ideally Gi trousers and Gi top or carisma T-shirt. Failing that black trousers and t-shirt are preferred. Anyone with a belt should wear it regardless of whether it is their colour or clashes with the rest of their ensemble.
    • Goals for next year:
      1. Keep the club financially healthy
      2. Keep attendance and membership figures up.
      3. Increase the number of sparring and power sessions.
      4. Throughout all this maintain the focus on form and technique since this is the foundation for the rest of our kick-boxing.
    • Upcoming events (keep an eye on the website for information and updates about all of these events):
      1. There will be a summer camp in Hungary at the end of August
      2. The club Annual General Training will be held at the end of September. Master Bottini will come over from Italy to train with us.
      3. Robin W is currently trying to organise a joint seminar with a Ju-Jitsu club for sometime in October.
  4. At the instigation of Justina, we celebrated Chris and Becky's Birthdays.
  5. Committee positions: It was agreed that the current committee would continue in their current roles. Current committee is Massimo (Club President), Mark H (Club Treasurer), Robin W, Raheela, Ian.
  6. A.O.B.:
    1. Massimo announced that he may have to relocate to Italy towards the end of this year. Currently nothing is set in stone but he will keep the club informed of any developments. In the meantime things will continue as normal.
    2. Ben D. said he liked training with us and that he felt very welcomed since the first lesson.

We adjourned in record time (about 45 minutes).

Prepared by Mark Hoyle.
