Attending: Simon B., Simon M., Malcolm G., Jack M., Andrew W., Jonathan S., Guy L., James B., Robin W., Raheela R, Becky S., Gemma B., Justin L., Robin T., Mark H., Massimo G.

Minutes

  • Introduction: Massimo welcomed everybody reminding that the meeting was supposed to start at 20:30 but because of various delays we had to start half an hour late.
  • Financial situation: Mark presented an analysis of the budget for the past year. The club has a credit in the bank of over a thousand pounds. About 60% of the club's expenditure goes toward hiring the halls where we train (e.g. Kelsey Kerridge and Chesterton Community College). Mark continued detailing the club expenditure and various chart were made available for consultation.
  • Massimo encouraged members to use the web site as a valuable source of information about the club such as news, events and so on. He also explained how Robin predecessor used to collect money.
  • Robin presented three issues:
    • New fee-paying system: as from the 1st of July 2002, members have up to the end of the first week of the month to pay their fees. These have to be paid in advance. We can no longer accept random payments for the day because they are disrupting the class and makes Robin.s job more difficult. The club will not refund fees for missed classes, however if told in advance we can accommodate for long absences such as 2 weeks holidays. This way each individual is basically hiring his space in the hall.
    • Registration: every member must ensure they are registered by turning up on time. Ideally it.s best if members turn up a few minutes before warm up so whoever takes the register can do so without sacrifying his warming up.
    • Lost property: the club is not responsible for items left behind in classes (gloves, pads.). Robin advised members to store valuables in locker within the changing rooms. Any found property will be handed to reception.
  • Massimo took then over the conversation with the following topic:
    • Litter: He pointed out that members should clear away their litter when finishing the training.
    • Attendance: random attendance is difficult for the club to manage it and for the student to learn: it was asked to try to train more regularly and if training just once per week try to increase the frequency.
    • Events: it was presented the idea of organising more seminars in the future, where other martial arts instructors give lessons in their own art such as Aikido: this follows the success of an earlier seminar held last month. Most important the AGT to be held on 19 and 20 of October.
    • Competitions: next one is held in Peterborough on the 15th of September: the club encourages members to compete and it was given a brief of what to expect in a competition. Andy W. asked about insurance for competition: Massimo answered that members who wish to compete will need a licence from AMA. Robin volunteered to liase with AMA on behalf of those who wish to compete in the next events.
  • The meeting rounded off with the club unanimously voting to keep the committee as it stands.
  • Massimo ended the meeting by bringing up the issue of uniforms.
