Press Release #05 - 22 June 2005Run for the childrenOn Saturday 18th June, Massimo, Colin and Gwyn ran in the Run for the Children fun run in aid of children suffering from Leukaemia. The idea was to raise some money for the charity through sponsorship and then complete a gentle two laps of Jesus Green in Cambridge, total distance just 3 kilometres. However, despite a very hot day, things turned predictably competitive! After a tense wait on the start line eyeing the opposition, while last minute entries were signed in, we were off. Massimo took off at a startling pace and settled into third place while Colin briefly considered matching Gwyn's early pace before dropping back thinking he had started too quickly and would regret it later. Things stayed this way until the start of the second lap and the glories of the finish began to beckon. Up at the front Massimo was overtaken by an annoying young girl who promptly left him in her wake. In the mid-pack Colin was spurred on when he spotted Gwyn walking up ahead and thought his earlier predictions might have been correct. Everyone kicked for home. Massimo lost out to just one more competitor and finished a highly impressive fifth in a time of 13min 34sec. Colin rounded the final bend to find Gwyn....nowhere in sight. In fact he had already finished in a fine 14min 45sec with Colin coming in after 15min 41sec. The run was a lot of fun and we raised around £170 for the charity, including the £10 side bet that Colin lost to Gwyn. | ||
